Strengthening Medical Cooperation Between Taiwan and Vietnam Through Advanced Airway Management Technology
From May 19 to 22, 2024, The One Medical, alongside Director 蕭世槐 from Kaohsiung Medical University, visited the Anesthesia Department of Buôn Ma Thuột Medical University Hospital (BUH) in Vietnam. The visit aimed to advance medical and healthcare services in Vietnam, collaborate on the development of the local health industry, and establish demonstration points for medical equipment along with bilateral professional training for personnel.
During the visit, The One Medical donated an IntuVu Video Laryngoscope Stylet to BUH as part of a continued effort to enhance airway management practices in the region. This donation follows a similar contribution last year when The One Medical provided a set of video laryngoscopes to Dr. Đặng Thế Thành during his clinical study at Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital, Kaohsiung Medical University in Taiwan. Upon returning to Vietnam, Dr. Đặng utilized these laryngoscopes to train the Anesthesiology Department at Buon Ma Thuot University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
At the donation ceremony, Dr. Đặng Thế Thành presented his research and clinical cases using the IntuVu video laryngoscope, emphasizing several key benefits:
- Improved Image Quality: The high-definition cameras provide clear images of the vocal cords and surrounding structures, allowing for precise identification of intubation positions.
- Increased Success Rate: Studies indicate that video laryngoscopes significantly improve the first-attempt intubation success rate, particularly in challenging cases.
- Enhanced Training and Education: The ability to display the tracheal structure on a screen offers valuable teaching material during training and real-time visual references for trainees.
- Patient Safety: Reducing the need for multiple intubation attempts minimizes airway trauma, improves patient outcomes, and reduces complications.
Dr. Đặng also cited studies from the Difficult Airway Society (DAS) and the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), highlighting the importance of video laryngoscopes, imaging stylets, and flexible endoscopes in managing both anticipated and unanticipated difficult intubations.
This donation by The One Medical, in collaboration with Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital, reinforces the ongoing commitment to promoting medical technology exchange and healthcare standards between Taiwan and Vietnam. The initiative not only strengthens ties between the two nations but also contributes to the enhancement of Vietnam's healthcare system.
